Most Common Sales Mistakes And How To Avoid Them

The main goal of the sales team is to fill the gap between the customer’s needs and the company’s goal. For every company, the sales team is important since they act as a bridge between the company and the customers.

Since they build the relationship between the consumers and the company, it is important to find the mistakes made by them and avoid them so that it will help in the company’s growth. In general, one needs both skill and talent to be a good salesperson. Committing a mistake is fine as long as they can learn from it and don’t repeat the same mistake again.

If you find that the sales are decreasing, then know that the sales representatives may have committed the same mistake again and again. Hence, knowing the list of most common mistakes made by them during the sales will help in avoiding it so that it may help in developing the business.

Know the common mistakes made by sales representatives:

1.Not having good listening skills – When it comes to sales, we would have seen people talking too much about their product or services. People find it a bad habit since they don’t hear what the customers say.

But this doesn’t mean that they should not talk, the right balance is required to improve the sales. It is said that 60% of listening and 40% of talking is important for a sales team to achieve its goals.

2.Not focusing on the right solution – It is good to talk about the amazing features of the product. But do you think that the customers will be interested to know all the features of it? Most of the time, the customers will do proper research about the product hence you don’t need to talk too much about the features of the product.

Instead, just focus on what the customers need and talk about how this product will be a solution for them. This will increase the sales and decrease the time spent on explaining the features of the product.

3.Talking more about the price instead of the value of the product – The price of the product sometimes will make the customers take the backseat. Even though budget is not their first priority, it will be their second important criteria. Hence instead of talking too much about the discounts concentrate on providing the values of the product.

Know that the product offered at a lower price will not get more value from the customers hence make sure to provide more information about the value of the product instead of the price of it.

4.Making false promises –Though a salesperson's goal is only to sell it doesn’t mean that you can sell in any method without thinking about the customer. If you end up with overpromises then delivering them will be difficult. If the promises are not fulfilled then it will decrease the reputation of the company. Hence instead of making unrealistic promises prefer the ones, it will accomplish since it will surely boost the sales.

5.Not open for suggestions (Listening but not considered) - Sales person or the authority above them is equally appreciable and objectionable while there is no sales or declining sales. This is faced by many companies and startups as well. When the salesperson/team is not open for suggestions from their own teammates.
